I am a hoarder

Okay. I’ve admitted it outload. Online. I am a hoarder. I have hoarding tendencies. The TV show Hoarders is an amazing and much appreciated eye opener.

I woke up one day and looked at my messy cluttered house and thought to myself, “If I keep this up at my normal pace; I will look like a Hoarder episode in 5-10 years. I am 50 years old (as of 2022) and have been accumulating since I was 21. However everything was normal and acceptable despite the tendency.

After I was married and joined households with my husband, who also had hoarding tendencies, things were still normal. The garage is his; the house is mine. LOL

Next, we then started raising our three girls. My husbands love language is giving…and he “speaks” it in volumes. The girl’s accumulated tons of gifts and we had to create a “toy room” in our basement for the overflow.

We had a household of five messy people with hoarding tendencies. My husband said to me after being married, that I was never this messy before he married me. I agree, and he was not either. However the mix of two leisurely and manageably messy adults and three naturally messy children; all with hoarding tendencies is a recipe that no one wants to digest.

We are rarely totally overcome with messiness and clutter because when it reaches the “hot mess” stage, I frantically fight to get it back into a presentable state because I hate, detest, abhor how it looks and feels. I know it is not normal and acceptable, even though I can maneuver in it for several days and sometimes over a month.

But I recognize that in 5-10 years, I will grow older and more overwhelmingly cluttered with my hoarding tendencies. I might become too overwhelmed with my stuff to get it under control. THEREFORE, I MUST STOP NOW and I want to help others like me by walking together as a team.

BUT THERE IS HOPE. I have help. God is my friend and Helper. I have been able to push back and not drown. I heard someone say jokingly that the solution to their messy home is to often have visitors come. Hospitality helps motivate a clean house. I have a ladies bible study at my house every Sunday evening. If the house looks like a hurricane four days a week; it will be clean enough to enjoy for at least three days a week.

Detangled Lives is another inspiration given to me by God’s Holy Spirit. First, there is no challenge on Earth that is not common to humankind. Second, iron sharpens iron, which fundamentally means that two or more people (even dull) working to sharpen one another brings success.

I love you all with the love of Christ and look forward to being a fellow success story with you. I am praying freedom, peace and joy into your lives.

Bible Verses:

Proverbs 18:24 A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

**Jesus is that friend that is being referred to in the verse. Also see John 15:12-15. **

Psalm 54:4 Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to humankind. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
